Rhinoplasty: Where Beauty Meets Function

    Rhinoplasty

It is a procedure that corrects the nose aesthetically and functionally. External nasal humps, curvatures, irregularities, and drooping nasal tip are corrected. Furthermore, cartilage deviations and enlarged nasal turbinates, which cause nasal congestion, are reduced, allowing for healthier breathing.

What is the appropriate age for rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty can be performed on all patients who are over 18 years of age and have completed their cartilage and bone development.

How long does the surgery take?

Surgery time varies from nose to nose, lasting between 2 and 3 hours.
However, sometimes initial surgeries may not be successful, and a second corrective surgery—a revision rhinoplasty—may be necessary. Revision surgeries typically take longer, lasting up to 3-4 hours, depending on the extent of the problem.

    How is the surgery performed?

There are two main approaches: open and closed. I prefer the open technique for my surgeries. The open technique involves exposing the nasal cartilage and bone through an incision made between the nostrils. Because the entire nose is accessible, it provides a more robust approach. Cartilage curvature within the nose is corrected, and the removed material is used to reshape the nose. The desired changes are made to the bones in a controlled manner using a rasp and piezoelectric effect.

    Is rhinoplasty a painful surgery?

While it varies depending on the individual's pain threshold, it is generally a painless surgery. However, for patients experiencing pain, simple painkillers may be sufficient.

How does the post-operative process proceed?

Spending the evening of your surgery in the hospital is both safer and more comfortable. Resting with your head elevated with a few pillows and applying ice will reduce swelling and bruising. Bleeding from the nose, such as dripping or leaking, is normal. You can go home the next morning. Our first checkup is on the 2nd and 3rd days after surgery, when the splints will be removed. Since the stitches will dissolve on their own, they don't need to be removed. Our second checkup is the first week after surgery, when the splint will be removed—the first day you'll see your new nose. Following the splint removal, I place a decongestant tape over your nose, which will remain on for a week. You can continue your daily routine for the first two weeks with the splint and tape, including bathing from under your head and washing your hair back. Surgery-related crusting can occur during the first month, and you should clean the inside of your nose with the moisturizer and seawater sprays we recommend. Glasses are not recommended for the first three months; you can wear contact lenses. It's important to protect your nose from impacts for the first six months. There are then check-ups at 1, 3, 6 months, and 1 year. It takes between 6 months and 1 year for your nose to reach its final shape, although sometimes this period can extend up to 2 years depending on your skin type.
